Elephant Hawk Moth

We were realy excited on our ramble today at Killinallan to see this Elephant Hawk Moth resting on grass. However, I've never seen one before and discovered there's two species - Deilephila porcellus and elpenor and I'm not sure which it is. Any help please? It's a beautiful creature. Becky

That's a Small Elephant Hawkmoth.

Wow! Thanks guys. I'm not sure if one's been reported on Islay before. I'll go check. That's exciting. Posting another one which I think is Poplar Hawk Moth.Becky
