| | | Moths to id please
A bit cold for mothing last night, but could do with some help please.
1. was small around 1cm in length, any ideas?
2. I think is pale mottled willow.
3. I know they vary a lot, but is this a mottled beauty?
4. Seen this micro a couple of times, I can't find it though. |

1.) Given the size I would go for a Minor sp. I don't usually go beyond this as I don't think that you can reliably separate them.
2.) I think it is a dart moth, perhaps a Heart and Club although it could be one of the less common darts if you are down in Cornwall, that don't grace the realms of my suburban inland garden! Not a PMW though
3.) Mottled Beauty
4.) No idea I am afraid
If you want something more certain I am sure others will be along shortly!

Dom | 1. Minor sp. Oligia sp.
2 worn Heart and Dart I think
3 Mottled Beauty
4 Phtheochroa rugosana

| | | Re: Moths to id please The first looks like Middle-barred Minor, which can be separated from the Marbled Minors by the sandy brown colouration. I'd say that the second is a Turnip Moth and the fourth is Phtheochroa rugosana.

| | | Re: Moths to id please Thanks Guy, yes I have been looking at the minors, this picture is a little dark, the moth was lighter and sandy coloured, so I was thinking along the lines of middle-barred. Could well be turnip moth too, anything but a heart and dart please :-)
My garden mothing at the moment is very much a case of a shed load of heart & darts, plus various others! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
