| | | Pugs, micros and others for ID please These were in or around my trap last night, here in South Beds.
1 Common Pug?
2
3
4 Same as 3?
5
6 Double-striped pug?
7
I clearly need to find some time to go away and learn how to differentiate between the various pugs! I'm pretty clueless about them at the moment.
It was a good night's mothing, anyway, with at least 9 new species for me, and more moths in the trap than I've had for a very long time. |

| | | Re: Pugs, micros and others for ID please Hi Pete,
I'd go for:
1. Common Pug
2. Crambus lathoniellus
3. Brown Rustic
4. Brown Rustic
5. not sure!
6. Mottled Pug
7. Common Pug
Those Brown Rustics look very smart when they're that fresh, I've only had one very worn one!

The reason I didn't manage to ID the Brown Rustics is because they're not on the "Hants Moths Flying Tonight" web page, which I usually use as a starting point when doing my IDs (and yes, I do know that I'm not in Hants!). I suspect that and similar pages may be a little less accurate than usual, as they're obviously based on the date and this year everything seems to be a bit early (I'm new to moths, but that's the impression I get from other threads on WAB). |
