| | | Scare Vapourer In the first week of June this year I am going for a short (3 days) wildlife holiday. I'm going to be constantly on the move, going from site to site to try and see some wildlife I've not seen before. I'm starting in East Yorkshire, going down to Hertfordshire, and back up again through Norfolk (or perhaps the other way round, not completely decided yet).
So far I've found out some sites for Edible Dormouse, Chinese Water Deer, and Monk Parakeet (the original reason for the trip, considering that they soon will no longer be there). Another species that I hoped would be quite easy to see (if given a reliable location) would be Scarce Vapourer - a delightful moth that I have never seen. I just wondered if anyone on here could tell me whether the first week in June would be too early, and if anyone could give me the location of a decent site for them - East Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, somewhere I could fit in along my journey.
I'm hoping that, like Vapourers (which is all I can ever find) in some areas there is a dense area of cocoons with wingless females attracting males. Near me I know of at least 3 Vapourer colonies that literally encrust walls and trees nearby with old cocooons, and can be covered with dozens of females throughout the summer.
Any advice anyone can give me - even if it is that I've got no chance - woudl be appreciated. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
