| | | Poplar Hawk-moth We've only been trapping moths since the autumn, so we had a nice surprise this morning when we checked the trap. It had been quite a breezy night, and the trap was empty but for what I initially thought was some leaf debris, and found our very first Poplar Hawk-moth. My book tells me they're fairly common - If that's the case how come I have never seen one of these monster moths flying around the skies before!!??

| | | Re: Poplar Hawk-moth I've been regularly consulted about amazing things people have found in their gardens, often hawkmoths or their caterpillars, and a regular refrain is "lived 'ere all me life, man and boy, and never seen anything like it". In your case, see the first few words of your message! Light trapping is wonderful and will introduce you to many of our beautiful creatures. Have fun! |

| | | Re: Poplar Hawk-moth They are quite something aren't they!
I had one in my trap last June.
Lovely strong colours, nice pic.
Happy trapping!

Thanks |
