| | | mobile mothing hi moth addicts,
I have a home made skinner moth trap with 240v actinic lighting system but have recently moved and am now living on a 500 acre farm (not mine, ) with its own nature trails comprising a wide variety of habitat. I now want to take my moth trapping mobile but my skinner trap is too big to carry and obviously i'd need one hell of an extension
I am now looking for a relatively cheap battery powered system, something light weight that doesn't cost the earth. I don't mind if the catches are small after all this is my first year of trapping so it does take a while to get moths sorted and identified and I can always invest in something better later on.
I've looked on the usual moth sites and seen the usual mobile affairs, but wondered what other people are using and what do they recommend.
Any info greatly recieved,
Cheers David |

| | | Re: mobile mothing Have a look at the Anglian Lepidoptera website, heath traps would probably be your best bet. Usually the heaviest part is the battery.

| | | Re: mobile mothing I'm using a 6W Actinic Rigid trap from Watkins and Doncaster, (the white plastic bucket one).
Its great as its light, white is useful for photographing moths against at night and being plastic I've drilled small holes in the bottom so the rain can't collect and soak the egg boxes.
As its only a 6W the battery is small and easily carried but lasts 12-15 hours fully charged.
I use it with a white sheet and have had some good catches - best so far this year with it was 180+ moths of 45 species. Watkins & Doncaster Moth traps - battery powered
