First time curiosity - moth ID help!

Hello, wise and all-knowing lepidopterists.

Can you help me without a picture?

I have seen an insect at my window for the last few nights... around 9pm and only for a short while - bounces off the window and gives itself a headache! Given it's largish size, it makes a big noise on the window.

Description is as follows:
3 legs each side
2 'pincers' ?mandibles? at mouth
Transparent wings - 4 in total - 2 upper and lower
Pointed abdomen possibly black and white striped
Whiteish stripe horizontally just below where wings are attached
?fur? inbetween head and first legs on "belly" of insect
very distinctive antennae - black at base, with orange, half moon, fan-like ends.
approx 4-5cm long
approx 1cm wide on body at largest point
wingspan approx 8-10cm

I am located in the Welsh borders, near Hereford but in Wales!

I will try to trap and photograph, but is hard to achieve the trap!

Hope this description is identifiable, with my limited biological experience, I know it's hard. I just hope the antennae are distinctive enough.

Your description reminds me of a cockchafer beetle. Would that match?

That's close...I'm just not sure it had a hard casing... will have to wait to verify that. It's gone for the night.

Just my luck that the orange fan shaped antennae are not showing in my pic!! Your description sounds right for the suggested cockchafer to me and cos of the warm weather I can believe - like a lot of insects - that as its other name suggests 'Maybug' that its out a week or so early. Certainly coming to light is very diagnostic - flying into lit windows or thro into lit rooms to crash into things is also very recognisable!!

My apologies for the delay in replying - I was hoping to get a picture to post which would confirm cockchafer/not.
My wife's not sure it is a cockchafer...but with your excellent image (minus clear antennae) I feel sure you've got it right. Many thanks. I'll try and post a picture once (if) the little blighter returns!

Thought I'd finally follow up on this...finally got a picture (sorry not attached) which confirms that it is/was a cockchafer.
