| | | Re: Moth'ing tonight I trap every Friday night as part of the Garden Moth Scheme, so tend not to trap on other nights. I've not caught that many species this year so far, but this Friday's highlights were an Early Thorn and a Pine Beauty.
Regards, Audrey. |

| | | Re: Moth'ing tonight My trap is out tonight. I've only just started on moths so it's a bit of a challenge. The trap is 400m away in my most interesting field and close to a large area of marshy grassland so I'll not see again it till tomorrow morning now. Expect some ID requests |

| | | Re: Moth'ing tonight Not trapping tonight as I've had 3 nights trapping in a row (I know, you're not supposed to continuously trap but I was very good and released them away from the trapping site. And the weather was too damn good not to!!)
I had Pine Beauty new to garden on Friday and Sallow Kitten, Scalloped Hazel, Mottled Pug, Foxglove Pug and Bright-line Brown-eye new for the year last night.
Although not huge numbers yet, the number of species is growing...looking forward to next weekend now...
Happy mothing to those who are out, happy reading to those who are of a vicarious nature!

| | | Re: Moth'ing tonight When I got up this morning, the moth trap had been raided by something and the light set on its side. The egg cartons had been tipped over so releasing a lot. I should think it was the earlier fox we had seen that had come to investigate.
Still managed to get:-
Brimstone Moth 4
Hebrew Character 3
Muslin Moth (male) 1
Pebble Hook-tip (in perfect nick) 1
Cabbage Moth 1
Several Caddis Flies
Myriad of gnats and assorted midges.
Nice to get trapping again. Other half has taken some shots so he may upload later.

| | | Re: Moth'ing tonight I've a trap out most nights at the moment, the Actinic 40W in the garden on Friday's for the GMS and the battery 6W out in the nearby woods or at the edge of the heath and bog.
Some recent goodies include Puss Moth, Emperor, Square Spot, Ringed Carpet, and Scarce and Pebble Prominents. I've also had a couple of Dark Sword-grass and Silver Y's.
Quite a number of species seem to be flying early this year even though it hasn't been nearly as warm in SW Ireland as in the UK. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
