| | | Please help two young children with Moth ID My children found a pupae hidden by a stone in the garden. We kept an eye on it and have looked after it for weeks. It's the same shape an a lemon or rugby ball and is made from what looks to be a yellowish coarse webbing. Last night, we had a new addition to the family...out came a beautiful moth. It's a very light beige colour with two brown thin stripes across it. It also has tiny brown dots along the bottom of the wings. It's head and especially the front tenticles are very hairy. We've tried to see if he wants to 'leave the nest', but he's happy clinging onto the butterfly net and won't fly away. Can anyone help us identify him and also advise how we can care for him until he wants to leave our family! Many thanks, Julie |

| | Re: Please help two young children with Moth ID Hi, I've uploaded 2 photos. I'm new to this, so haven't been able to include or attach them onto this thread, but they are available to view under the 'images' tab. Hope this is ok and you find them! Julie |

| | | Re: Please help two young children with Moth ID This looks like a Snout moth, so-called because of its long nose. It lays its eggs on nettles and other plants. They fly by night so it will probably go tonight. You could give it a spot or two of sugar and water for energy.
Good luck, and keep up the childrens' interest!

| | Re: Please help two young children with Moth ID Many thanks for this. I've left some sugar and water close to it, so we'll wait and see what happens overnight. Thanks again. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
