| | | Re: pug i.d. help please Hi Graham,
You've hit on one of the trickiest groups that I've come across since starting this moth-trapping game. It's always a challenge, even with well marked examples!
There are a couple of good articles around the web, particularly one on the Lancashire moths website ( http://www.lancashiremoths.co.uk/vis...0%208.4.10.pdf) and the UKMoths website has some good images.
The key thing to grasp I've found (and this helps with worn individuals) is the wing shape and body length as this is usually a good place to start.
I have to admit though that at least a quarter of my pugs from last year went unidentified simply because without a wing full of scales they are too difficult!
With this in mind however, I would tentatively suggest that all 3 of your pugs would be Brindled. But as I say, it is tentative for the reasons outlined above!!
Regards and happy mothing,

thanks for all the feedback....indeed...a hard group and ive struggled with them since i started mothing a couple of years ago.....
i came up with the brindled i.d. on the first pic because of the dark lines at angles to each other seemed to fit....and yes, the pics were taken a couple of days ago....
thanks again for your help....it is very much appreciated.
