It's 20mm in width, virtually a dull brown throughout apart from two distinct black markings that are diagonally parallel with 'corners' of the upper wings.
Taken in Hampshire, relatively near the coast.

It is a type of Pug but which one I do not know...

From further research (and it's astounding how many there are), I'd have a stab at it being a Brindled or a Mottled Pug but I could be completely wrong!

That's confirmed it for me, especially as I've since been in touch with Ian Kimber at UK Moths.
He recognised the shape of the wings and went from the markings that were visible. I've since taken another photo of it, this time against the wall (it's now near the lamp in the lounge) and the two tally up nicely...
