| | | Worth mothing on a foggy night? Is it worth putting a moth trap out on a foggy night?
You can tell that I'm getting desperate, can't you! But it's a serious (if probably daft) question. |

| | | Re: Worth mothing on a foggy night? Not a daft question at all Pete. I'd say you'd be unlikely to get anything but never say never. Go on....do it and surprise us. My Robinson is gathering dust, so if you do, then I might soon!

| | | Re: Worth mothing on a foggy night? Well the temperature is now well above zero at night + day, certainly in the south, so may be worth a try, especially if you're in a sheltered situation such as woodland nearby. Could be some Winter Moths or a few others like December Moth, Scarce or Mottled Umber.
Don't expect much, but you won't know unless you give it ago. |

| | | Re: Worth mothing on a foggy night? Yes - maybe you'll get some, maybe you won't but like aeshna says you'll never know unless you try!
Mine's out tonight in a bit of woodland next to my garden - I've had Winter Moths, Mottled Umber and a Depressaria daucella at the back door light the last two nights and I saw a Twenty-plume Moth in the woodshed this afternoon ...... |

| | | Re: Worth mothing on a foggy night? Thanks for all the replies! I've just put the moth trap out, but I'm not really expecting to find anything in the morning. |

The moths are contained in a large area under two sloping pieces of perspex, with egg boxes at the bottom. The bottom of the egg boxes may get damp, but there wil be plenty of dry space (on top of the boxes and on the trap walls) for any moths that do show up tonight. |

| | | Re: Worth mothing on a foggy night? I put my trap out this evening (desperation... not had it out since early November). Nothing so far and I suspect there won't be anything. But it's about 3C at the moment (but foggy) so might as well try.
Hope anyone else trapping has some success! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
