Oak processionary moth

I have been informed that the oak processionary moth Thaumetopoea processionea has become a worrying problem on several of Londons' parks and open spaces during the past two years. Apart from the caterpillars defoliating oak and other tree species it can be harmful to people and I am told dogs. It would be of interest to me and I am sure many others, if fellow WAB members could post their experiences and identify the extent of its range in the UK and how agencies and landowners are dealing with the problem.
