Jersey Tiger spotted in W Somerset yesterday.

I'm not sure how unusual they are in this area, I've only managed to find one not-very-clear map.

Anyone know?

The Jersey Tiger moth has been very common here during the last two weeks (in the Pyrenees) Its range used to be confined in the U.K. to the Channel Islands Devon and Cornwall I understand however recently there have been sightings in London and the South East Its range seems to be extending I will be very interested to know what shade /colour its hind wings were as on the margins of its distribution the colours greatly alter from the norm red

Hi Steve, I'd describe the colour as light orange.

Thanks Dr Moth I was hoping it might be Yellowor Orange I have never seen those colourations. If other members of the forum have seen a British Jersey could they confirm its colour?

The vast majority are of this form here too, though I have heard of the occasional yellow form.

I found one of these outside my house in Taunton the other week. I couldn't find what it was so I emailed someone from UK butterflies. We had a Bio Blitz down the road in a nature reserve - pity I didn't see it in time for that.

My sister had one in her garden in Pitney, Somerset this week. NBN shows them as being recorded over a wide area in Somerset, but mainly towards the south.

They seem to be being found in increasing number of sites around London- it's good that they are expanding.
