Trapped last night in Surrey. Doesn't look like a Common, Scarce or Buff Footman to me, do you think it's a Hoary? Fairly unlikely, but not impossible.

With that shape it must be either a Scarce or Hoary Footman, and I think it's a Hoary! Scarce usually have a very obvious, thick, yellow border to the wings including the outer edge, whereas this individual doesn't seem to have any hint of this. The timing probably also favours Hoary, I don't get many Scarce Footman in the garden but I haven't seen any since July, and I expect that any that are around now will be quite worn unlike this individual which looks to be in very good condition.
It would be worth sending the picture to your county recorder, but it looks very good for a Hoary Footman to me, in which case congratulations on a scarce moth!
