| | | Last night's trapping Evening all,
As the weather was better last night I set my trap up again to see if I could do better. I decided to stay with the trap until 01.30 and got up at 04.15 to turn it off (I hope that's an OK time, Peter ). There were quite a few when I left it but when I came to empty it there weren't that many so it seems that my trap is easy to escape from!
Anyway, I think I've id'd most of them but theres a couple I'm not too sure of so all help appreciated as usual!
8 x Willow Beauty
2 x Pandermis heparana
4 x Bryotropha affinis
2 x Emmelina monodactyla
2 x Agriphila straminella
1 x Pyrausta aurata
2 x Marbled Beauty
1 x Argyresthia goedartella
1 x Crambus perlella
2 x Riband Wave (1 ab. remutata)
2 x Pandemis corylana
1 x Double-striped Pug
1 x Ermine
1 x Bimstone Moth
2 x Flounced Rustic
1 x Agriphila tristella
1 x Light Bown Apple Moth
3 x Brown House Moth
1 that I couldn't get a decent pic of but looked like a large pug
and the one I can't id at all:
Thanks for looking! Jo

| | | Re: Last night's trapping That's ok Peter, I've ranted myself on occasion! Getting up earlier did make a difference to the final count although last night was even better. I packed up and switched off at 01.00 as the batteries died in my camera and I'm not confident in id-ing all but a couple without pictures! Total count at the end of last night was 59 of 27 species with a couple left to id, but I'll start a new thread for them.
Thanks for the Ermine id and the egg tray advice! I was using crumpled sheets of newspaper in place of the egg trays but it's market day tomorrow (if it can be called a market ) so I'll nip out and scrounge a few. I need to get some new shoes anyway; I've actually worn a hole in the bottom of my walking shoes and they're only 6 months old...

| | | Re: Last night's trapping I think I'd go crazy with that number to sort out! Do you pot them up as you go along or do it all in one go?
The most abundant moth I had last night was Blastobasis adustella. There were 7 which looks pitiful compared to your numbers! I couldn't use an MV though as the neighbours would go through the roof so at least I can manage the small numbers!
