| | What moth is this? I found this moth on a shop window in Exeter. It looks like a tiger moth, but I'm not entirely convinced... What moth is it?
(Apologies for low quality -- I was lucky to have been carrying my mobile phone at the time...!) Thanks! |

| | | Re: What moth is this? Thanks for the quick response -- I thought it was some variant of tiger moth, but my books on moths (& butterflies) didn't show this one. According to this article it is a recent addition to our collection of wildlife here. So hopefully I shall be seeing more?..! |

| | | Re: What moth is this? What area did you find this? They've been in South Devon, the Channel Isles + I think the Isle of Wight for many years. In the last few years a population has built up in south-east London, intially at a nature reserve in Forest Hill + spreading out subsequently. The origins of this population is unknown.
I've recently returned from Hungary + this species was very common in the Bukk Hills where many could be seen flying + feeding on flowers during the day. The winters are harder there than here ( though also hotter summers) so hopefully they'll continue to expand here too. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
