| | | Re: 2 moths for ID Well I am no expert on moths but thought I'd have a go.
The first one is I believe is a micromoth and is probably either pyrausta purpuralis (1362) or p.ostrinalis (1363).
The second is a Silver Y (2441).
This is a good site to look them up on UKMoths | Guide to the moths of Great Britain and Ireland (you can even search by colour combinations) and / or buy the book 'Field Guide to the Moths of GB+I' by Waring and Townsend which is worth it just to see how many moths there are and the beautiful images by Richard Lewington!

| | | Re: 2 moths for ID Hi, I agree. Numbers 1 & 2 I think are both Pyrausta purpuralis as this is the more common of P. purpuralis, P. aurata and P. ostrinalis. Number 3 is a Silver Y.
Jo
I see you are also in Hampshire. Mike Wall has a great website (Hantsmoths) which has a "Flying tonight" section in which you can choose any week of the year and see the 100 most common moths flying in that week. Invaluable resource to narrow down a likely id!

| | | Re: 2 moths for ID I'm in Hampshire too (West End near Southampton) so I'll have a look at that! In about three years of trapping (I don't do it every night) I am up to 66 species which are all macros except two or three.
It's quite good entertainment but can be rubbish as it was this morning with nothing more than a Dun-bar (surely the most common species?!!).
Still that Clifden Nonpareil is just round the corner!!!!

All my images come from my daily dog walk so what I get is purely opportunistic. I have come to love the macro world

| | | Re: 2 moths for ID That is exactly how I started! One of my dogs is not overly friendly to other dogs, cyclists, joggers etc so we tend to walk in the middle of nowhere which is perfect for insects! I rarely walk them without my camera now. It's amazing how many insects are disturbed into flight by the dogs...

| | | Re: 2 moths for ID Well I don't believe it but walked out into my garden and saw exactly the same as your first two photos! I thought 'hmm I know that one'.
Another species for the Rob S NNR lepidotera count!
