| | | Moth Information please. HI Folks,
I'm looking for some information on the Humming Bird Hawk Moth...
I live in East Yorkshire on the coast, and wash washing up tonight and spotted something flitting around the honeysuckle at the bottom of the garden, after searching my books i identified the Hawk Moth, the book tells me its fairly common in southern Europe.. How far north do they come ? i'm a long way from Med LOL.
Can anyone give me more info on this pretty little crittur.
Regards

| | Re: Moth Information please. They can occur anywhere in the UK, but tend to be more numerous towards the south. The fact you are on the coast, makes it more likely to be a place for migrants.
There have been quite a few reports recently, though haven't seen one myself this year. There have been some enormous counts of Silver-Ys in the last few days in Norfolk on the coast + some interesting dragonflies too. If it looked like the images you can see, then I suspect you did see one- they are great moths! |

| | | Re: Moth Information please. There have been reports from flamborough and further up the North Yorkshire coast so they are about here. They are very fond of honeysuckle so my guess is thats what you have seen. They will travel up into Northern Europe. |
