i.d. help and yellow underwing query?

hello all

back to a bit of moth trapping now the weather seems to have pulled round from the recent windy cooler weather....not that there was much in the trap...anyway....a couple for i.d. please....one looks like a small wainscott, though very worn...the other, lesser yellow underwing??

talking of yellow underwings...is it a poor year for them?....last year, by this time, i had had loads in the trap, but this year...nothing....any ideas?

Hi Graham,

first moth is worn beyond identification. All you can say is it's a Noctuid.

2nd looks good for LYU.

Forgot to add that yellow underwings have been virtually absent from my trappings this year.

As Adam says the first is probably too worn identify confidently, but it does look like a Marbled Minor sp.
I think that the second is a well marked Uncertain (unless it had yellow underwings!)

Yellow Underwing numbers seem to be down here too, just 3 Large Yellow Underwings last time I trapped!
