Yellow and brown Moth for ID please

I saw a moth in my garden this morning, one I'd never seen before.

I was a mustard yellow colour all over, with several horizontal brown bars across the full length.

Any ideas? I wish I'd taken a photograph. This species is not in my Collins guide to British Insects, the shape was similar to that of a 'Wave' moth.

I've looked up the 'Yellow Shell', yes I'll go with that I think.

Some of google photos show the moth more brown than yellow, is this because of the male and female colouring? I think this is the moth I saw though, it was a very mustard yellow in colour.

How common / rare are they?

They are Common, Guinessman and rather variable.
