| | | White Plume Moth Its that time of year when I throw open the windows to let the fresh air in, and unfortunately, the bugs get in too. I am terrified of most of them, moths in particular. So I'm going to try to learn a bit about identifying some different ones, it might help get me over my fear. I recently stumbled upon a pic of a white plume moth on an iphone app I have ( the app is for id-ing native flora and flora ).
I have only ever seen one of these, about 6 or 7 years ago. I remember it was so pretty that I wasn't frightened of it. Seeing the pic on my iphone app enabled me to finally find out what it was.
Are they common in certain areas ? I wouldn't mind these getting in the house, better than the big horrid ones *shivers* lol. Do any of you on here spot them regularly ? |

| | | Re: White Plume Moth Afternoon Debbie,
The two Plume Moths I get regularly are Amblyptilia acanthadactyla and Emmelina monodactyla.
I'm glad you find these more pallatable, there are a good few others out there - look out for the Twenty-plume Moth http://ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=360 too.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: White Plume Moth Hello Debbie,
I get Emmelina monodactyla quite often, mostly visiting the sedums in the back garden. It took me a while to realise they were there as they are not that big and can easily be overlooked. I also get the Twenty-plume Moth that Jason mentions, they are attracted to our outside light now and again.
Hope you enjoy being part of the WAB community.
Regards
Phil
