| | | National Moth Night 15 May 2010 I've just put my trap out, but it's clear and chilly so I don't hold out much hope of attracting anything really.
Is anyone else trapping tonight, either at home or at an event? |

Just one each of Shuttle-shaped Dart and Hebrew Character. |

| | | Re: National Moth Night 15 May 2010 I didn't know it was Moth Night, but I had the trap out anyway. Not much to see, but I did get a Poplar Hawk and a Brimstone so not a total loss. |

| | | Re: National Moth Night 15 May 2010 Two: a Common White Wave netted at dusk, plus a Swallow Prominent. Takes my grand total to 4 moths in 3 sessions this year.
Insects have been hard work this year, so it was very nice to have the compensation of seeing the Great Reed Warbler at Ilkeston this morning. |

| | | Re: National Moth Night 15 May 2010 I was at a NMN event at Nethybridge, the turn-out wasn't good - people or Moths - it didn't seem to get the usual amount of advertising as previous years.
I left at about 11.30pm, there had been 8 species caught up to then, the most notable being a micro moth - Acleris abietana, which if confirmed will be a new record for the vice county.
It was quite a cold night, there was a bit of cloud cover to start with but the sky started to clear and the temperature dropped. |

| | | Re: National Moth Night 15 May 2010 Ops I forgot to put mine out. It seems a bit of a daft date to have it so early in the year ,surely would be better moved to a date when everyone was pretty much guaranteed something interesting or could really be a turn off for ordinary folk . |

The problem this far north, is that in June/July, which would seem to be a suitable time, it is light until really late in the evening. It isn't worth starting an event until just before dark, but people aren't going to bring their kids out for an event that doesn't start until about 10.30pm, or even later further north. |
