As another possibility, try maybe a Scoparia/Eudonia sp., from the Crambidae sub-family, Scopariinae.

Thanks aeshna5 i have had quite a few Rush Veneer this year and this looked markedly different i.e. much lighter and not as long that is why i discounted the Rush, will carry on looking at other examples for comparison

Wings are not long & thin enough for Rush Veneer ... it must be a scopariine pyralid of some sort ... but that's where my bravery ends!

Hi Andy,

I think you'll find this is Eudonia angustea (Narrow-winged Grey, 1342). I've had a few of these this year - a widespread moth often seen in coastal situations, and on the wing at this time of year.

clicka15, thanks just checked the ref (1342) and yeah looks good, although says says often coastal am about 10-12 miles inland over portsdown hill between portsmouth and southampton it was windy over the last few days so going with it.
