| | | 2 S. Devon moths for ID help please The first one was sent to me by a friend who couldn't identify it. And I'm also having problems. Reminds me of a grass moth with a shorter head. I think I should know this one but can't get a positive match from my limited reference books. Noss Mayo, S. Devon, early September.
The second rather tiny moth, on a bramble leaf, is near the S. Devon Coast Path, yesterday and reminds me of one of the 'Carpet Moths' but so far I can't find a match. I'm also tempted to consider one of the plainer Pyrausta moths, but once again I've drawn a blank so far.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Not sure of the first, yet. Your second looks like the Nettle-tap moth, Anthophila fabriciana. Family Choreutidae. Nice shot, too.
Take care, Jason |

The Nettle-tap looks correct; and there are plenty of nettles around that area.
The Rush Veneer images that I have seen so far appear a bit darker but I assume this is variable between individuals and possibly time of the year.
Also, as I didn't take the photo, I don't know if this image is absolutely correct. My friend does have a little bit of colour blindness so his edited photos can vary slightly from the originals. |
