It's actually a Butterfly with it's wings closed over it's back. You see the white marking on the wing's underside there? Well, it's called the Comma for that reason. Polygonia C-album in Latin.

on wikipedia it says they are more common down south. |

| | | Re: Moth ID Due to average temperatures, etc. you do tend to get more insects down here, but equally you get some different insects ' up North' that we don't get - and of course different races of ours - Northern.
Well, this one is generally commmon, yes - but in the early 1900's they were so close to UK extinction it was claimed there was only one pair left in the country! They have mde a strong recovery though, and as said are now generally common |
