Small friendly moth for ID please

Morning Hed,

It's a Grass Veneer Moth from the Crambidae family. Perhaps a pretty worn Agriphila geniculea.

Perhaps you could recommend a book for identifying, please. There seem to be a lot of moths I've never seen.

2 Books i'd recommend are Concise Guide to the Moths of Great Britain and Ireland ISBN978-0-9531399-6-5, ring bind copy about £13.

British Moths and Butterflies,a photographic guide Chris Manley,this book covers 850 Macro's,500 Micro's,plus caterpillars,ISBN978-0-7136-8636-4
about £25.

i have just bought both these books and they are very good the 2nd in out of print so you will need to search around

Waring, Townsend & Lewington or WT&L as its known is the Moth er's bible, I have the Chris Manley book aswell but it is not a great source for identification as some species are mis-labelled and for micros its not great either because their are so many alike, it doesn't always show the more commoner species, thus people are duped into thinking they have a rarity.

Its a nice picture book though to show someone who's not interested in Moths, to get them interested!

Bennyboymothman, i have the 2 books mentioned by peter would you recomment the purchase of the WT&L (Field Guide to the Moths of Great Britain and Ireland) as well, or would it be overkill

As Peter says its the same pictures (-1 actually that being Clancy's Rustic) although their is a revised edition (2009) out now which i'm trying to get my hands on in a book shop but haven't seen it anywhere yet, I believe its on Amazon.
The new revosed edition apparently updates the text and a shows a few more variations of Moths.
