It's a Grass Veneer Moth from the Crambidae family. Perhaps a pretty worn Agriphila geniculea.
Take care, Jason |

Perhaps you could recommend a book for identifying, please. There seem to be a lot of moths I've never seen. |

| | | Re: Small friendly moth for ID please Waring, Townsend & Lewington or WT&L as its known is the Moth er's bible, I have the Chris Manley book aswell but it is not a great source for identification as some species are mis-labelled and for micros its not great either because their are so many alike, it doesn't always show the more commoner species, thus people are duped into thinking they have a rarity.
Its a nice picture book though to show someone who's not interested in Moths, to get them interested! |

As Peter says its the same pictures (-1 actually that being Clancy's Rustic) although their is a revised edition (2009) out now which i'm trying to get my hands on in a book shop but haven't seen it anywhere yet, I believe its on Amazon.
The new revosed edition apparently updates the text and a shows a few more variations of Moths. |
