thanks for these id's i have cross referaced them i think you have gotten them spot on. like you i'm not sure on the underwing but i think it probably is, i'm off to view some more pics to compare.
thanks again. edited: on further image searches i think no 2 is a Lesser Yellow Underwing 'Noctua'

| | | Re: 6 moths to id please Scalloped Oak - that was my only real contender for #5, but discounted due to the dotted pattern at the bottom of the primaries. It wasn't on the other pictures I've seen, so maybe a fresh individual or just a variable species then! |

and you both were spot on for the other two as well. i particularly like the Scalloped Oak, its a real beauty which i couldn't do justice with my camera skills.
