| | | Argyresthia sp. Hi,
Taken in late June over a few days from 21st to 27th, there was a few on 27th flitting about near a flowering Cherry tree but also near Oak and Hawthorn. As the larva of A. pruinella feed internally on cherries (had a cherry tree a few years ago which died), not sure of this as it looks similar to Argyresthia bonnetella (larva feed on Hawthorn), the difference between the two is the angle of the marks on the forewing. The bar across the back looks more sharply angled on Argyresthia bonnetella. I also have a red leaved flowering cherry which produces a few plum cherries not too far away.
Also wondering if A. bonnetella larva make a gall as I found one on Hawthorn nearby on 21st June.
We don't as yet have an entry for Argyresthia pruniella so I need this to be correct. Does anyone have a trained eye for these?

| | | Re: Argyresthia sp. I would say pruinella by looking at the forward pale markings compared to bonnetella
Cheers,
Adam

| | | Re: Argyresthia sp. Thanks Adam, good to have it confirmed!
There seems to be very few pics about, a google didn't even bring up ukmoths but I looked at all the pics of the same genus. I found a pic which matches mine perfectly, Micros 1
I'll go ahead and add it to the moths then!
Just found out why I got few results, I copied and pasted yours and my "pruniella"

| | | Re: Argyresthia sp. Oh well, lol, I looked amongst the Argyresthia finding no entry for this moth, but there is one, alphabetically it has been separated because of the name, Cherry Fruit Moth! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
