| | Moth for I.D. Hi
I have recently started moth trapping (2 weeks ago) here in Sweden and I have done it every day since. The last days I have tried to I.D. some of them to and I came across one I can't find anywhere.
What is this moths name? [img] |

| | | Re: Moth for I.D. Hi Kalle and a warm welcome to WAB.
I'm not 100% sure of my ID, as I think this is a moth that we don't have over here in Britain, but I think it's a Arichanna melanaria which is a Geometridae. I think it is also known as the Boarmie Tiger.
What's throwing me is the white wings on the photo I have linked you to but that could be down to your photo not showing true colours. It could also be that there are different colour ranges of this moth.
I can't find any other moth with the same wing markings. Here is a link to a photo of that Moth. Moths and Butterflies of Europe and North Africa
Hope that helps.

There will be a high percentage of Moths that we have over here but there will be quite a few that we don't.
On WAB there are a few of us that might guess the family of Moths that are not over here but whether or not any of us will know all the non British species well that's a different matter.
I would suggest you also join BirdForum - The Net's Largest Birding Community, Dedicated To Wild Birds as that is a world wide forum and there are some incredible Moth experts on there. One of them, Harri (Hjalva is his user name on BF) comes from Finland and what he doesn't know isn't worth knowing. So if we can't fathom out what Moth it is then perhaps giving Birdforum a shot might get the answer. If you did join them then this would be the area you would post a question. Butterflies and Moths - BirdForum
Hope that helps.
