| | | Lost Scarlet Tiger?! Just found this fella on the inside of our bathroom window! I know they like being near water but surely that's a bit unusual
Seriously though, it's a bit of an unusual place to find one isn't it? We may be only 400 yards or so from the Thames 'as the crow flies' but i've never seen one anywhere near here! I helped it find its way back outside

Wildlife doesn't read books though (sorry used that so many times - my favourite phrase! ), so anything can turn up anywhere. |

It's usually the moths attracted to light that come in in the evening, not the day-flying ones

I trapped a Garden Tiger yesterday - first I've seen since 2005, so got pretty excited about that. Awfully declining species. |

| | | Re: Lost Scarlet Tiger?! Just found your thread and thought you might be interested in this. It came today in my magazine e/mail. Garden Moth Count
Scientists are asking people to search their gardens and local parks for both the Scarlet Tiger and the two different types of Peppered Moth over the coming nine days (20-28 June) and to log their sightings as part of Garden Moths Count 2009.
Garden Moths Count is the annual event that raises interest in the moths found in UK gardens. It is part of the national Moths Count project, established after research indicated massive declines in moth numbers, especially in the southern half of Britain. Peppered Moth numbers are down by almost two thirds compared with 40 years ago.
