| | | Ectoedemia species Hi, I have more!
In the early hours of 23rd June attracted to light. Last two pics are the same moth, the back view shows some white near the bottom of the leading edge which is not visible in the side view. It could be the same moth as pic #3 which was quite high on the wall although I was stood on a chair!
All tiny, about 2.5mm. I have looked through all the Ectoedemia species on UKmoths but none match, there are a few without pics. If anyone has a book with the description or pics I would appreciate any help.

| | | Re: Ectoedemia species I think you need to invest in a moth trap and bug pots (and a micro-moth expert!)
The first one looks a bit worn; it could be an Ectodemia -there are a few species with the white bar over the wings, although the posture looks slightly wrong. I'm wondering if the others might be Stigmella spp.? An ID this time might be a bit harder... |

I don't like the idea of trapping them, prefer to let them roam free, they seem to have such a lot of fun! I got some very strange micro moths that night, not quite as small but I will post them later if I can't find them. I'm so busy taking pics and editing them I haven't got time to do anything else! (261 pics total from one night and day!) Besides, such small moths could easily be missed in a trap (as if they are easy to see on a wall)!
I thought the shape wasn't quite right for the first one, but the head sort of fits apart from a similarity, will check out the other one. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
