Moth picture to ID please

Hi all have just today photographed this very large moth in my back garden. It looks like a hawk moth to my un trained eye but people on here know what’s what so can somebody please tell me what it is.
The moth’s wing span at rest was about 6cm.
I did see that it had a "eye" on each wing but did not get a picture of this, it also sprayed out some liquid when I moved it; don’t think it liked me moving it ...
