Did anyone else see this on the local news this evening (11th June)?

I have heard of this phenomenon, I would love to go and see it!

Wow, that looks incredible! Why aren't the trees in leaf now - have the caterpillars finished them all off before chrysalysing beneath the silk covering?

I think you've answered your own question there Jason! These caterpillars can completely defoliate, but the trees should recover.
