| | | Brown Moth? I know this is a bit of a long shot but hopefully one of the experts might be able to help?
We were emptying an old garden shed last week and a beautiful small brown moth flew out and crawled across the path.
It was small about 1cm in length and was a coffee brown colour with a perfect cream coloured cross on it's back... across both wings.
I've been trying all week to get an ID with no luck!
Has anyone any suggestions? |

| | | Re: Brown Moth? Hi Ruth Um... so I know how darker a brown it was, how much milk was used in the coffee?
OK, forget that... what shape was it? Was it long and narrow, or bigger and near-triangular? If it was the latter, it may be worth looking at Geometrids or Noctuids... |

| | | Re: Brown Moth? It was the colour brown of the common house moth and a similar shape.....long and thin but very small.....only 1cm long.
The crosses on the wings was very distinct tho as we both commented on it immediately.
Thanks for trying Jason. |

| | | Re: Brown Moth? So possibly a micromoth then. I'll keep looking, though I expect someone will get there sooner... |

| | | Re: Brown Moth? Try the Gallery in UK moths online or Anglian lepidopterist website where they also have a large Gallery. Both are charities so should be ok to mention on here.
It sounds like one of the Gallery-type micro moths.
Hope this helps.
