I looked both up on UK Moths, and neither of them seem to fit to my eye, but what do I know!!
Thanks anyway, Jim ... |

Oops! Having found more pics of the LBBYU on the internet, and being amazed at the variation in markings and colours, I found one at last that looked remarkably similar in both areas to mine!
So, hats off to you, Jim .... |

| | | Re: Moth-eaten ... I'm certian that No 4 isn't a Flounced Chestnut, wrong head/crown. I think this is a Lesser Yellow Underwing.
No 5 is hard but I would have a stab at a very worn straw Dot (but I could be way off the mark there). I am assuming these Graph Squares are 2mm squares. If so No 4 is too small to be one of the larger Underwings and is almost Setaceous Hebrew Character size..

Correct, John .... 2mm squares, and similar in size to the SHC .... |

| | | Re: Moth-eaten ... Are those squares really 2x2mm? I would have thought 4x4mm. Still pretty convinced no 4 is a LBBYU . Can you remember if it had a greenish under body looking head on? It's a bit worn, though, and that colouring fades so this may not tell us anything.
Don't think that last one is Straw Dot - look at the outer wing shape. I suspect it will forever remain a mystery. |

Giving the SHC a second look I have to agree that these squares must be 4mm but by the same token No 4 looks the same size as the SHC. That would make it just about right for both LBBYU & LYU. With size variations on both moths they could be both within that size catergory. I still favour LYU but wouldn't be suprised if it were your choice.
Now that I have 4mm squares in mind it is obvious that No 5 can no way be a Straw Dot. I was using the 2mm square to size the moth. No 5 is obviously much larger and the only one I can think it might be is a very worn Sallow.
