| | | Moth I.D ? Ok i took part in a moth trap/record session with the Kent Wildlife Trust this morning at the Darland Banks reserve in north kent ....
This moth turned up and i identified it from the books we had with us as a worn.."Lace Border" which will be very exciting for us as it would be the first record of one at the reserve and from what the others were saying in the area in general?
Sadly my camera is rubbish and i have no decent macro setting but here are two pics...one cropped slightly more, i have adjusted brightness to try and show the markings a bit better...its hard to see in the pic but it had indeed a lacey border type pattern below the orange/brown blobs
i would be interested if any moth experts on here agree or disagree with my I.d? as im only a newbie to moths?
Im sure the two people that ran the trap are sending all records to the country recorder and i have just mailed the pic i got of it to them so i will see what they say this end too?...im kind of excited ha ha...how funny. [/IMG] [/IMG] |

Let me change this to "MAY" be the first record on the reserve etc...." I was only going by what the trappers said but until i hear anything i may be wrong or there may be many records or indeed it may not even be a lace border ( although it tallys with a lot of the pics i have just googled) and its food plants were present in large quantity |

| | | Re: Moth I.D ? Definately Lace Border Scopula ornata, classified in Moths of Great Britain and Ireland by Waring,Townsend & Lewington as Nationally scarce.
North Kent is mentioned as one of its few remaining strongholds.
A very nice moth - well done Dan |

| | | Re: Moth I.D ? Yes, it's much cheaper to build your own trap based on existing good designs e.g. Skinner, Heath, Robinson etc. I use a Heath trap in the garden. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
