Welcome- you are absolutely right with your ID. What a cracker- a pretty rare migrant + one I've never seen. Please report this with your photo to the Atropos migrant site. Well done. |

above are reported sightings of deathshead hawk moths, i guess now its classed as native because no one has introduced it ??? is that right? |

Then click on flight details to submit your exciting record.
I wouldn't describe it as native as it doesn't have a sustainable population here or even a common migrant, but certainly many of its appearances are naturally occurring, though not all. |

| | Re: Giant Moth Can i just say these moths are ridiculous !!! i am fed up with them. Unfortunately i have a huge massive phobia to anything that flys. My cat insists on bringing them in. So far in 4 days ive had to kill abour 30-35 of them. I currently have 2 in my house just waiting for a friend to come and kill them for me once they have i will take pictures and maybe you guys can identify just what they are ! and if there is any kind of spray i can buy for the house to prevent this.
They seem bigger than the ones on the picture id say there about 14cm long with about 8 cm wings. there wings are that big it wakes me in my sleep from the flapping. and they are also incredibly slow. are these poisonous or anything ? or will they harm my cat if she ingests them ?
thanks for any advice guys i just want to stop them coming into my house so guys like you can enjoy looking at them in the wild where they are meant to be |
