I was watching television one night last week when this moth flew in through an open window. I'd appreciate an ID. It was about 2 cm from wing tip to wing tip.

I think the fact the darker "band" is not completely across the wings is diagnostic of the Garden Carpet.

Just a little tip here is that....
'C"ommon = "C"omplete band across the wing.
Whereas Garden = Not Complete.
