| | | Re: National Moth Night 2009? It WAS the 7th June 2008 Wild woman, sorry.
Why 'they' can't make it on the same night every year is beyond me!
Last year I think it was September which is not the optimum month to record moths!
I remember one year it (NMN) was August and Bernard Skinner and I were sitting in the middle of a wood (secret location!) where we ran 3 traps from his generator and we got absolutely nothing!!!
At least we had a good chinwag and drank all his flask of coffee!

I am a member of Atropos now...but havent had any news of 2009 dates yet...im very excited to me a moth-er now so i can take part! its slightly more exciting than my usual rspb big garden bird watch...
However i do record and collate all my records of all wildlife which will soon be sent via recorder 6 to the nbn gateway when i get round to learning the new software!
All my bird records go on birdtrack too.
So did i hear right that sept is optimum for moffers?...blimey...there was me glad that the mad august rush is over and my trap sorting will get quicker ha ha.

| | | Re: National Moth Night 2009? I am not really into moths, much more interested in the other insects that are caught in the moth traps, but I think it is a different night each year because they select species that more info on distribution and population is needed as targets and then set the date when those species are about. I believe that 2008 species where Anania funebris, Bordered Gothic Heliophobus reticulate and Narrow-bordered Bee Hawk-moth Hemaris tityus. Saying that I cannot find any information about the 2009 date on the websites of Butterfly Conservation or Atropos who jointly run the event. |
