Why 'they' can't make it on the same night every year is beyond me!
Last year I think it was September which is not the optimum month to record moths!
I remember one year it (NMN) was August and Bernard Skinner and I were sitting in the middle of a wood (secret location!) where we ran 3 traps from his generator and we got absolutely nothing!!!
At least we had a good chinwag and drank all his flask of coffee!
Naturegirl | No not this year's one....a date proposed for next year's 2009 (see title) .
I was at Priory for this year's. I need a date for my planning see.

| | | Re: National Moth Night 2009? This is what their press release said: Quote:
An announcement has confirmed that next year's National Moth Night (NMN) will take place on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 September 2009.
National Moth Night is the annual celebration of moths and moth recording. It is organised by Atropos, the journal for butterfly, moth and dragonfly enthusiasts, and Butterfly Conservation, through the Moths Count project.
Next Autumn's event will be the eleventh of its kind. The theme will be migration and plans are already suggesting it could be a particularly interesting year.
Richard Fox, Head of Butterfly Conservation's Moths Count project explains: "The exciting thing about migratory moths is that we have no idea what might arrive. New species, never been seen in Britain before, could turn up. Spectacular sights like the Convolvulus Hawk-moth are just as likely to be spotted in your own back garden as anywhere else. Next year's event will be over two nights because of the eccentricities of the weather in September and there won't be any specific target species or habitats as in previous years - a great excuse to go mothing in new and exciting places!"
