Velvety Brown Moth for ID
I can't find this moth in my (very poor) ID books.

The pictures (very poor quality as well I'm afraid) were taken this morning, in Dorset.

Many thanks Guy. I've looked it up and I can see what you mean about it being a variable species. This one was a chestnut brown colour....

I agree with GuyF, it is a Square spot rustic and just now on the wing!

They can be extremely variable depending on where you live.

I agree with Square-spot Rustic and the variability of these moths.

I suddenly had an explosion of them last Friday with some very fresh specimens amongst them.
