| | | Re: [ID] Moth I agree...its one of our largest but also one of our most common and yet until i started trapping a month or two back i had never seen one! i get a bunch of them every time now though...but they are still stunning and so massively varied in colouration, i had an absolute beauty.(fresh too) today ...i even took a pic!

| | | Re: [ID] Moth Maybe its because i dont trap them that i dont see many Moths, as there mainly nocturnal. I should look into a moth trap, there are probably many thousands i`ve never seen ... |

| | | Re: [ID] Moth Your not far off. If you get a moth trap be prepared to be busy at certain times of the year. Oh!! and don't forget to buy a camera that will do macro shots, as there will be moths that you will not work out immediately and you will need to take a photo of.
And another oh!! You must have a patient and understanding Mrs as you will probably need the use of a fridge to fridge your moths (which will be kept in containers). This quietens them down to allow you to take those photos the next day. The other understanding bit is that you will possibly be running a moth trap through the night and as you get into mothing there is a good chance that you may stay with the trap for part, if not all, of the time you are running the trap.

| | | Re: [ID] Moth I certainly agree about the time it can take. A few weeks ago I had the trap out in my garden and caught 46 different species.
It took most of the following day to ID them all as I still consider myself very much a novice Moth-er. |

My haul yesterday took from 10am until 6pm and that is a massive improvement for me! (on a good sized haul)...although there is a growing handful...maybe two handfuls now that i just tick without having to look up every single moth which is a relief.
