| | Do moths eat? etc. Do moths eat? If so what? How long do moths live for?
I know this will vary according to species but any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,

| | | Re: Do moths eat? etc. Butterflies and most moths (many moths don't eat as adults) - feed through a tube-like tongue called a proboscis so their food must be liquid. Many feed on nectar from various flowers while others feed on a variety of moist rotting matter including, fruit, sap, animals, and animal droppings.

| | | Re: Do moths eat? etc. Some moths have vestigial mouth parts but cannot feed e.g. Emperor MothThese have stored fat reserves by feeding as larva. As imagines they live to reproduce i.e.mate lay eggs and then die.
Some species have fully formed mouthparts (a proboscis) and can feed mostly on nectar although they will take any sweet liquid. These tend to live longer and some can hibernate over the winter months like butterflies e.g. Hummingbird Hawkmoth.
