| | | 2 moths for ID please 1. I thought no.1 possibly was a Barred Umber, but the colour looks too yellow?
2. This was the only shot I managed of this moth before it was off (thats the trouble not having a trap - my excuse any how )
Thanks . |

| | | Re: 2 moths for ID please Have you considered a Scarce Umber - Agriopis aurantiaria for No. 1? Just a rough suggestion as my moth knowledge is abysmal.
Better still, this reply might spur a moth expert to reply and prove me wrong. |

I was gonnae suggest a "barred somethingorother" but I'm sitting here at work with no moth books for me to look through - so I'll deliberately bump this thread (sue me) for some more knowledgeable person on moths to get goosey her IDs....

| | | Re: 2 moths for ID please Hi
there looks to be some colour bias in the photos , so forgetting that and just looking at the markings, the first reminds me of Riband Wave and the second Bright Line Brown Eye.

Doesn't the Bright Line Brown Eye look very different with it wings open!
The Riband Wave looks right doesn't it - perhaps the night mode on the camera can alter the colour, but I have never noticed it before. Thats the trouble in the dark, I can't get a proper look to see what the true colour is to compare. I use a torch and the red beam from the camera.
I do find using that mode does mean with white and yellow subjects there tends to be a lot of problems with flash back. I use grease proof paper of the flash stuck omn with blue tack which difuses the flash and helps to a degree, but doesn't totally over come the problem. |
