| | | Micro moths for ID I am not sure if these are the same type of moth, possibly male and female or just two types of moth which look similar. They were only about a foot away from each other. Thanks .

| | | Re: Micro moths for ID It appears that there aren't any 'moth men' about today. By micro moths do you mean under 10mm? If so, I might hazzard a guess for the first one being a Codlin Moth. Especially if that is a tiny tip of gold at the end of the forewings.
But, have a large pinch of salt handy as I don't know much about this subject. The second image could be one of several possibilities and my reference material is a bit skimpy on micro moths. It does look a bit like the Brown House Moth but it is difficult to make any sort of guess without a clearer look at the wings.
Maybe an expert will be along soon. |

| | | Re: Micro moths for ID Nice try Geoff! No these aren't Codling (or Brown House) Moths but they are of the Tortricidae family and as such are Micros (size isn't a good indicator of whether it's a macro or micro, some micros are bigger than some macros). Incidentally there is no physiological difference between macro and micro families, just that most people can't be bothered with 'micros' because they are too small to be bothered with them.
Goosey, how about Grapholita tenebrosana or funebrana.
Cheers,
Adam

| | | Re: Micro moths for ID Thank you Geoff and Adam for your answers - they do look like Grapholita tenebrosana to me now you have pointed me in the right direction. Much appreciated . | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
