| | | Re: Moth or Butterfly ........ I'd agree with Neil, Green Oak Tortrix (Tortrix viridana, a micromoth of the family Tortricidae). The caterpillars feed on oak and when their numbers are high they can strip all the leaves off the trees. But they're also a prime source of food for Blue Tits and other birds.

| | | Re: Moth or Butterfly ........ Hiya, the way to tell the difference between moths and butterflies is:
Butterflies have 'bobbles' at the end of their antenae, so remember the 'B's' for Butterflies. Moths have 'straight' antenae for girls and 'feathered' for boys but NO bobbles!

| | | Re: Moth or Butterfly ........ to expand on what naturegirl said... the burnet and forester moths (Zygaenidae) have clubbed antennae (or 'bobbles') so are the exception when looking at antennae for differentiating between butterflies and moths. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
