Could anyone tell me what this is? prob pretty easy, some defining characters which seperate it from similar moths would be great then i know what to look for as some of these micros look similar and are quite variable so colour alone on most is no indication of species. I know some can only be reliabliably seperated on genitalia but i want to know how YOU done it from a pic if you can

Hello Serendipity,

There are several dozen such micro's all looking like a bird dropping. The only way to differentiate between them accurately,m is to kill the moth and do a genitalia mount. Sorry.

No need to apologise. thankyou for he input. cant kill anything unless i can justify it with a fairly decent reason in order to ofset the huge feeling of guilt.

Its a member of the Tortricidae sub family Olethreutinae possibly Epiblema scutulana
