Hey Guys I did get a moth! As the day warmed up today it appeared up the inside of the vertical blinds in the conservatory - a gorgeous Iron Prominent
Trap is out tonight and has been since I got home from work just after 9pm - once again I haven't seen anything flying so shall bring it in and have a look before bed............ maybe tomorrow I will find a stray Lime Hawk climbing the blinds ......... some hopes

| | | Re: Garden moths 2008 Last night I ran the trap from 20:45 to 00:30. Considering how mild and still it was I was disappointed with the total catch, which was.
7 x Light Brown Apple Moth
2 x Double-striped Pug
2 x Red Twin-spot Carpet
2 x White-shouldered Brown-house Moth
1 x Brindled Pug (new moth for me)
1 x Green Carpet
1 x Shuttle-shaped dart
1 x Emmelina monodactyla
I am running a trap tonight and have caught a few so far but it isn't that busy, although I have caught my first Brimstone of the year.

4 x Light Brown Apple Moth
2 x Double-striped Pug
1 x Early Grey
1 x Common Quaker
3 x Shuttle-shaped Dart (male then female)
1 x Brimstone
1 x Lunar Marbled Brown.

| | | Re: Garden moths 2008 The trap result from 07/05/08 was a bit disappointing considering the very warm conditions. At leastI caught a new Micro for the garden, Mompha epilobiella. All I caught was:
4 x Light Brown Apple Moth
4 x Shuttle-shaped dart
2 x Brimstone
2 x Green carpet
1 x Mompha epilobiella
Plus an unknown micro that I am still working on.

| | | Re: Garden moths 2008 My trap results from last night was again disappointing but at least I caught one of my favourite moths (Swallow Prominent) plus an as yet unknown Plume Moth which could possibly be possibly either Stenoptilia bipunctidactyla plus I was considering Stenoptilia millieridactyla.
Total catch was:
6 x Green carpet
3 x Light Brown Apple Moth
1 x Shuttle-shaped Dart
1 x Double-striped Pug
1 x Swallow Prominent
Plus that unknown Plume Moth. Any ideas folks as to which one it is?

| | | Re: Garden moths 2008 First of all the Plume moth from my last post was an Emmelina monodactyla. It was poorly marked and I just didn't recognise it. One of the experts on Birdforum managed to ID it for me.
Back to last night. It was the best night I havre had this year with three new moths for me. One was poorly marked (Common Pug) and one of the BF experts had to ID it for me. I haven't attached a photo of it as it wasn't a particularly interesting moth but the other two were a bit special for me (Waved Umber and Syndemis musculana which is a Tortricidae. My total catch was:
6 x Green carpet
4 x Brimstone
3 x Shuttle-shaped Dart
2 x Light Brown Apple Moth
2 x Double-striped Pug
1 x White-shouldered Brown-house Moth
1 x Red Twin-spot Carpet
1 x Brindled Pug
1 x Common Pug (garden first)
1 x Waved Umber. (garden first)
1 x Syndemis musculana (garden first & first for the Gallery)

Had a successful trapping on saturday night with 5 new moths for me, these were:

Small Phoenix
Sandy Carpet
Alder Moth
Also had:
2 Red Twin-spot Carpets
2 Common Carpets
1 Garden Carpet
Plenty of Narrow-winged Pugs
1 Common Pug
Lots of Brimstones
1 Clouded Drab
1 Shuttle-shaped Dart
1 Great Prominent
1 Pebble Prominent

There were also 6 Cockchafers and 1 Cream-spot Ladybird in the trap, not moths but still quite nice to find!

Guy | That's a good haul Guy. i know we've had some good conditions over the last week or so, but many mothers are still getting low counts, so good to see your productive tally. |

| | | Re: Garden moths 2008 Well Saturday night was some night. I am still trying to ID some moths but I can't wait till then to put down my catch.
I started as usual at 9pm and ran it through to 2am. Strangely most of the moths were caught by midnight with hardly any in the last two hours.
I managed quite a few new moths for the garden (some I am still trying to identify). So far I have identified 57 moths for 22 species but I still have 8 pugs & 2 Micros to ID.
This is the catch that I have identified so far.
10 x Shuttle-shaped dart
8 x LBAM
6 x White-shouldered Brown House-moth
5 x Green Carpet
4 x Brimstone
3 x Bright-line Brown-eye
2 x Garden Carpet
2 x Common Quaker
2 x Flame Shoulder
2 x Common Pug
2 x Currant Pug (New moth for me and the Gallery)
1 x Spectacle
1 x Ruby Tiger
1 x Brown House Moth
1 x Green Pug
1 x Double-striped Pug
1 x White-spotted Pug (New moth)
1 x Orange Footman (New moth)
1 x Least Black Arches (New moth)
1 x The Streamer (New moth)
1 x Tinea trinotella (New moth for me and the Gallery)
1 x Bryotropha affinis (New moth for me and the Gallery)
Not a bad catch in my urban garden at this time of the year.
