| | | Garden Moth Survey 2008. Hi all
I thought you'd all like to know that last year on the Back Garden Moths website we ran a ' Garden Moth Scheme ' where users of the website could register for their own personal records database. This allowed anybody to log their records during the year into a live database, allowing them to keep their records save in a central location, enabling them to be easily sorted for handing onto county recorders but also allowed us to gain a better understanding of the range of species seen through the season throughout various locations within the UK and made it interesting for others to see what was being recorded. This was an amazing success with 94 people registered to take part and well over 14,000 records posted. There has been a brief end of year summary written which can be found here Back Garden Moths - Garden Moth Scheme 2007 Summary and the link to the records databases where you can register for your personal database is Back Garden Moths records databases
It would be great if others could join in during 2008 and make this an even better success than it was during 2007. The more the merrier really. If you have any questions then please feel free to contact me through the website. It was great fun !
Many thanks

| | | Re: Garden Moth Survey 2008. I would love to do this - its just my cup of tea! But I doubt I can join in being in Holland . I have only been making notes of moths for a couple of years but I absolutely love it and then trying to find the ID's.
Good luck with the survey Simon! |

| | Back Garden Moths - Moth Survey 2008. Hi everyone. Thanks for the replies and the comments. It would be great if you could take part.
Firstly to Duncan, I think we may have spoke via email. I'm not sure why you're having issues logging in. Have you registered yet for a username and password? If not then thats easy to do via the ' register ' link on the suveys login page. I don't see you listed as joined, so if you have any problems then please feel free to drop me an email and I'll sort it out for you.
Secondly, hello Goosey. There is no problem for you joining and using the personal database system. In fact it would be great for others to see what's being recorded outside the UK. That's all part of the fun, plus its a good way of keeping your records in a central location and monitoring your catch statistics etc. So, it would be great to see you in there.
Lastly, thanks Susie for you comment. Much appreciated.
There are already records being posted in there so moths are being recorded on favourable nights.

| | | Re: Garden Moth Survey 2008. Hello Simon,
have been recording moths in my garden for some years now and would be glad to see data being used.
I have just registered for a database which after a few problems I was able to do. However I just tried to return to check that i could differentiate between those caught at trap and those from sugar and cannot get past the first page. As i cannot contact through your website could you advise whether this is a problem from your end or mine.
Thanks |

| | | Re: Garden Moth Survey 2008. Hi tachybaptus,
Sorry for the late response. Thankfully I was told this posting was here. Thanks for joining the members records. Not sure why you had problems. Can't see anything obvious but sometimes you can catch the server when its busy. Anyway, I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say differentiate between trap and sugar. At the login stage you can enter your recording method and this is purely so that when you are entering your records it fills in the form automatically which saves you a lot of time. ( ie. if you chose ' sugar ', then sugar will automatically be the item listed in your records you post in that sitting. ) It's not way of filtering seeing other records filtered by method. Saying that, it's an interesting idea and something that could easily be incorporated, so if you'd like to see that option then it's not a problem.
I hope I've got the jist of your posting correct but if I haven't then please let me know. You can always contact me through the website if you need to. Back Garden Moths - Contact Administration
Hope this helps.
Thanks

| | | Re: Garden Moth Survey 2008. Hi,
thanks for response. I have just tried again and everything went smoothly this time.
I was just checking that when I submit records I could show how each of the species were caught if I use different methods on the same evening. For example, in late summer I regularly get Old ladies when I sugar but very rarely get them when light trapping (as you would expect) - just wanted to see if the recording form allowed me to differentiate when using both methods on the same night.
Cheers,
Paul |

| | | Re: Garden Moth Survey 2008. Thats no problem Paul. Just because you choose one method when logging in doesn't mean you can't change it to enter another record using a different method. Once in your database you can change the method field to whatever you wish.
Thanks
